Initially considered for replacement with a new build, this 1970s house was ultimately transformed through a bold programme of modernisation, extension and refurbishment. This approach proved to be the most economically and environmentally sensible solution, while offering the opportunity to reimagine the home for contemporary living.
The brief was to create a spacious, open-plan layout with a refined, Danish-inspired aesthetic. Clean lines, an abundance of natural light and a sense of calm now define the interiors, providing a modern yet timeless family environment.
Enhancing the connection to the expansive garden was a key priority. A level threshold was introduced to create a seamless flow between indoors and out, extending the living space onto a generous patio. The garden was fully redesigned as part of the project, with the new layout incorporating a dedicated gym building nestled among mature trees, complete with a raised deck for yoga and quiet retreat.
At the heart of the home lies a large kitchen and dining area, orientated to embrace views of the garden. A striking vaulted ceiling with rooflights enhances the sense of space, while the central breakfast bar island anchors the room, making it both a functional and social hub for modern family life.
