“We appointed Howard to carry out architectural design services for the complete refurbishment and multiple extensions to our very dated 1960's house. Our house is located in the metropolitan greenbelt and had already been significantly extended. Howard helped us through what was a particularly challenging planning process in order for us to achieve the space and contemporary look that we desired.
Howard used his extensive knowledge and experience of the planning process to successfully and creatively navigate a way around the various obstacles that presented themselves along the way. This was without compromising design, function or aesthetics.
Howard listened carefully to our brief, provided creative input and came up with a design that met our functional and aesthetic requirements. “We have worked with Howard for over 5 years. During the initial design phase, we worked through two completely different concepts. Initially we thought we wanted a super modern look, but after some sleepless nights, we didn't feel it was right.
So we went back to square one and together with Howard we come up with a very different concept; a blend of Scandinavian /traditional English which reflects our heritage. This still required many iterations and three planning permissions applications.
Throughout the process, Howard was supportive and patient. He listened to us, came up with some amazing ideas and helped us to cultivate ours. To design and build your own home is an incredibly emotional and humbling experience, but it’s also one of the most satisfying and exciting things we have ever done. The property, however, hadn't had much of an update in the 60 plus years since it had been built and we weren’t sure where to begin. We loved the original design and wanted to keep the spirit of the mid-century modern home that we loved whilst thoroughly modernising it.
Howard understood and interpreted our not very well articulated brief and came up with a stunning design which we loved from day one. Almost 3 years later (thanks to bats and Covid) we moved into our dream house, which is perfect for our needs. There are no design features that we would change, I am pretty sure there would have been without Howard's hand holding throughout.
