Our Approach

Creating beautiful homes, designed for the way you live.

HPA are passionate about designing beautiful spaces that maximise a property's potential and fully enhance the quality of life for all who live in it.

Based at our Harpenden studio, we have over 25 years’ experience in creating stunning, bespoke family homes in both contemporary and classic styles. From large extensions to luxury new build homes, you are in safe hands. Each project begins by understanding your aspirations. We read between the lines and arrive at ideas you never knew you needed, unlocking the design of your dream home.

We understand that starting a building project can feel overwhelming. That is why we guide you through every stage, with clarity, creativity and genuine care.

Laying the foundations

We begin by getting to know you and your aspirations for the space. Whether you are extending, reconfiguring or starting from scratch, this is where we establish what you need and how you want to live.

After a site visit and survey, we put together a clear, tailored programme to map out the journey ahead.

Exploring ideas and unlocking potential

This is where your future home begins to take shape. We develop layout options and spatial ideas that maximise your home’s potential, bringing together beauty and functionality.

Collaboration is key, we work closely with you to refine the concept into a design that feels right in every way.

Preparing for planning

At this stage, we finalise the look and feel of your home. We confirm materials, finishes and architectural features to support your planning application.

We are proud of our 95% planning approval rate, especially in sensitive contexts such as Listed Buildings, Green Belt and Conservation Areas.

Detailing the design

We prepare all the drawings and specifications required for Building Regulations approval. This includes lighting, electrical and plumbing layouts, and detailed designs for kitchens and bathrooms if needed.

We also coordinate with our established consultants including structural engineers, interior designers, garden designers and more. We impartially help you navigate the tender process and share our portfolio of trusted local contractors to ensure every detail aligns beautifully.

Turning the design into reality

We stay actively involved once the build begins. With regular site inspections, project coordination and cost management support, we work closely with your contractor to make sure everything stays on track and true to the design.

Support beyond the build

Even after the build is complete, we are still here for you. We stay in touch to ensure everything is running smoothly and that any final tweaks are quickly resolved.

We are always proud to showcase the finished results and love sharing your home as inspiration for future clients.
