This 1950s home needed a fresh start. Dark, dated and no longer working for a young and growing family, it called for a complete redesign and a bold new vision. We were brought in to breathe life back into the project after a previous planning refusal, and to help shape a home full of character, light and space.
The client had a clear ambition: to reimagine the house with a timeless Victorian aesthetic, inside and out.
This vision guided every design decision, from layout to materials. A generous rear extension transformed the back of the property, opening it up with expansive glazing and rooflights that now flood the once-dull interiors with natural light. At its heart is a stunning open-plan, split-level kitchen, dining and living space, complete with a central island, perfect for hosting friends or spending time together as a family.
We reworked the hallway to improve flow and create a real sense of arrival. A new Victorian-style staircase and stained-glass windows bring elegance and charm, while the open layout now offers a beautiful line of sight from the front door right through the dining space and out to the garden beyond.
The front elevation had always felt unbalanced, dominated by a single gable projection. By introducing a second gable to the opposite side and creating a new central entrance, the facade is now harmonious and refined. A carefully detailed porch completes the transformation, echoing traditional Victorian craftsmanship and tying the whole scheme together.
The result is a home that not only meets the practical needs of family life, but also captures the personality and aspirations of those who live in it. Thoughtful, tailored and full of soul, just as the clients had imagined from the start.
